Biography | Dr. Daniel Amen

Daniel G. Amen, M.D. is a physician, psychiatrist, professor and ten-time New York Times best-selling author. He is a double board-certified child and adult psychiatrist and founder of Amen Clinics, Inc., operating with six clinics across the country. Amen Clinics has the world’s largest database of functional brain scans relating to behavior, totaling over 135,000 scans on patients from 120 countries. Daniel Amen, M.D. is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He is the lead researcher on the world’s largest brain imaging and brain rehabilitation study on professional football players, which not only demonstrated significant brain damage in a high percentage of retired players, but also the possibility for rehabilitation in many with the principles that underlie his work.

Dr. Amen is the author or co-author of 70 professional articles, seven book chapters, and over 30 books. Dr. Amen’s published scientific articles have appeared in the prestigious journals of Molecular Psychiatry, Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neuroscience, Journal of Neurotrauma, American Journal of Psychiatry, Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Primary Psychiatry, Military Medicine and General Hospital Psychiatry. The Washington Post called Dr. Daniel Amen “America’s most popular psychiatrist” and Sharecare named him “the web’s #1 most influential expert and advocate on mental health.”

Dr. Amen is a psychiatrist, researcher, and New York Times best-selling author.  He founded Amen Clinics in 1989, which now has 6 locations across the United States. Dr. Amen is the lead researcher on the world’s largest brain imaging and rehabilitation study on professional football players.  In January 2016, his team’s research on distinguishing PTSD from TBI was featured as one of the top 100 stories in science by Discover Magazine.

He is also one of the chief architects of “The Daniel Plan,” a program to get the world healthy through religious organizations and has been done in thousands of churches.  In November 2017, Dr. Amen released his new book Memory Rescue which was a bestseller on the Christian market.  Dr. Amen has hosted 13 national public television programs about brain health. In late November, 2017 his latest show, Memory Rescue, debuted across North America.
